SEGA SG 1000
Sega's first home game console
Sega's first foray into the home console business. Previously Sega had some success as a game publisher, their most notable games being Monaco GP, Congo Bongo, and Frogger, the game that put Sega on the map. This machine came out in 1983 and retailed for 15,000 yen (about $150 bucks.) Two more releases of the machine followed, the SG mark II which had NES style gamepads, and the SG mark III which doubled as a home computer. An add on keyboard was also made for the original machine. Sold pretty well in every country except the United States (where I'm not even sure that it was released.) . Has graphics and sounds slightly above the Colecovision but a little below the Famicom. Games are compatible with SMS consoles. Pretty rare nowadays, although you can get one off ebay for under $100. Many Hong Kong websites sell these machines for around $100-$150 depending on condition of the box or number of games included.
